Privacy Policy

This site is run by James Mattison, an independent creative director based in Dubai. If you have a question about anything below, write to hello@jamesmattison.co.uk.

What I collect, and why

If you use the contact form. The form asks for your name, email address and message. It sends them to my inbox as an email. The website does not store them. I use them to reply to you, and for nothing else.

If you sign up for the monthly newsletter. The signup form sends me your email address in an email. Periodically, I add the new addresses to my newsletter on Substack, which sends the monthly emails. Substack’s own privacy policy covers what it does with your address. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can write to me and I will remove you.

If you just visit. I use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and where visitors come from. It records pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived. It does this using cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. The cookies are set by Google, and Google processes the data under its own privacy policy. I use the reports to decide what to write and what to fix. I do not use them to identify individuals.

Spam protection. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It checks your browser and connection when you load the form. Cloudflare’s privacy policy covers that check.

Hosting. The site is hosted by SiteGround. Like any web host, it keeps server logs that include visitors’ IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

How long I keep it

Emails from the contact form stay in my inbox for as long as the conversation or working relationship lasts, and for a reasonable period after. Newsletter addresses stay on the list until you unsubscribe. Google keeps analytics data for a limited period, which I set in my Analytics account.

Your rights

You can ask me what personal data I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to hello@jamesmattison.co.uk and I will reply. If you are in the UK and are unhappy with how I handled a request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work. If you block the Google Analytics cookies, your visit will not appear in my reports.

Changes

If I change how the site handles your data, I will update this page and the date at the top.
